WHY VITAMIN E PLAYS A PART IN DOG'S HEALTH

Published date: 10 December 2021

When it comes to beauty, Vitamin E is a must have and found in many face creams, hair product and nail products. But Vitamin E also has an important role to play in our dog's bodies.

It is an antioxidant that works to strengthen the immune system by protecting cells from damage by free radicals. Free radicals are highly reactive molecules that can lead to cell death which not only contributes to the the ageing process but can lead to the formation of cancers and other diseases. They are produced through normal metabolism but can also be created as a result of external factors such as pollution. Once formed, they can start a chain reaction within the body like dominoes.

Vitamin E is part of the group of products known as antioxidants which form a neutralising reaction with free radicals and so helps to protect cells from free radical damage. It is a fat soluble vitamin, which means that it can only be transported through the body by fat molecules, and stored in the fat tissue within the liver and muscles.

The most common sources of Vitamin E comes from vegetable origin, although it can also be found in some animal products such as liver. Not all natural sources of Vitamin E are safe for dogs, such as avocado, so be careful when looking for a dietary supplements and natural snacks for your dog.

Sunflower seeds contain one of the highest natural sources of vitamin e, and that's why we use them in our natural dog treats Cheese, Carrot & Sunflower Seed Rewards.
